Q3: I submitted my web site using your submission service and then changed it's code. Do I need to submit again?
Question more in depth: If I submit a URL today, say with a title "Mike's Fishing Web Site" and then three days later I change the title to "Mike's Angling Web Site" which title will be indexed?
Answer...
Search engines collect the source code of your web site when they spider your page. Spidering can generally take place anytime ranging from immediately after submission to 60 days after you submit. Currently none of the major search engines instantly index pages. Obviously it is best to make any alterations prior to submitting, however we recommend no later than 2 weeks after submitting, to be on the safe side!
Q4: How long will it take before my web site is indexed by the search engines?
Answer...
After we have submitted your web site's registration details/web site enhancements, to search engines and directories, it will take between one day and eight weeks (average) for your URL submission to be added to the search engines database (indexed). Some smaller search engines will take only a few days to index your page. However, most of the other larger search engines will take several weeks. Such a delay between the date of submission and the date of indexing is due to the extremely high number of submissions (sometimes tens of thousands) most popular engines receive every day.
Index Time Estimate...
2-6 weeks: HotBot, Lycos, WebCrawler
6-12 weeks: Yahoo
NOTE: Please be advised that we can not 'force' search engines to index your web site - it is totally at their discretion - all we can do is simply submit your web site details to them so they can then decide whether to index your site or not. However, please note that you do get indexed by the Search Engines. What is required is patience with the Search Engines to find out when the Search Engines are indexing.
Q5: Do you submit to Yahoo by hand?
Answer...
Our submission service does not include a hand submission to Yahoo. However we do submit you to Yahoo's database through its back door. When a search is conducted on Yahoo, it uses Google's database to display its results. Our submission service does include submissions to Google's database.
Q6: How often should I re-submit my web site?
Answer...
Announcement sites such as "FFA" (Free For All) sites will post your site temporarily (days to weeks). If you wish to continually appear you need to submit fairly regularly.
(NOTE: One of the main advantages of being indexed in FFA sites is that the number of web sites linking to you increases, and as a result your position in some search engines will rise.)
Directories and search engines are more permanent. They range from 3 - 12 months. They do not want their database to go stale - some refresh after a certain amount of time - while others have a crawler check your web site to see if it is still up - if not your listing is then deleted.
You should also realize that the information you are displaying on your page is changing all the time. It is very likely that your listing that you submitted 2 months ago is no longer accurate.
As a general rule, every 2-3 months is a good time frame to resubmit your web site details. |
